Scott McLeod at Dangerously Irrelevant has posted a great three-part series on so-called expert consultant that districts often bring in to 'fix stuff'. The latest post focuses on the obligations one has as a consultant. The points made are salient and worth a read, especially if you or your organization are planning on hiring a 'sage on the stage' to speak to your school/staff.
Another point made is that when an organization decides to bring in an 'expert' - they should do some due diligence and see what others are saying about the person/group and ensuring they are not spending money on some flavor-of-the-month that will have little or no lasting impact on the achievement of their students.
